The art-partment is a colorful, eclectic studio apartment situated above a working art studio in a cool, quiet, forested setting. You'll have the chance to create some of your own art, and read books from our mini library! The studio apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, as well as a privacy screen. BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international, interfaith - all are welcome!
More About the Space:
This is a sweet, rustic little space. You'll feel like you're in a mountain treehouse! You can park right next to the stairs that lead up to the entrance. Enjoy a private spacious deck that's half sunny and half shaded. There's tons of gorgeous natural light from the large windows throughout the space.
You'll be able to cook your meals in a fully-equipped kitchen, including a toaster, stove, oven, refrigerator, freezer, and coffeemaker. There's a huge table that you can use for meals, work, making art, or whatever you desire! The living area includes a futon that can fold down into a bed, as well as a smart TV. A privacy screen blocks the view of the bed from the entrance/kitchen, but keep in mind that this is a studio apartment, so privacy between yourself and others in your party is not total. There's a bookshelf with some of your hosts' favorite books for you to enjoy during your stay.
We provide a closet with a few shelves and hangers for you to keep your clothes. The bathroom is a separate room with a door and contains a shower. The shower does have a seat, optional anti-slip mat, and grab bar. The bathroom also has ample drawers and shelving for you to store your items. Laundry is available in the main house, just ask!
Outside, you'll have 3.5 acres to ramble around! Take the walking path and driveway around the property to explore. We have a creek and two ponds. There are plenty of trees and plants to enjoy.
The art-partment is just above Josh Coté's studio, where he works most days between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. You may hear some noise from him, but he'll avoid making loud noises before 10:00 a.m.
NOTE FOR FAMILIES - PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING! There are hazards on the property that may make it unsuitable for some children. However, we do welcome families and well-supervised and well-behaved children over age 5 may be able to stay here safely. Property hazards include open water, piles of scrap metal, large artworks, splinters, stairs, lack of fencing, and blinds with cords.
The Area:
We're in a rural area with lots of hiking and opportunities to get on the water! Stores are far but nature is close :) Be on the Toe River in 5 minutes, or on the Appalachian Trail in 22. The highly regarded Penland School of Craft is about 15 minutes away. Many local artists live and work in the area. For bigger city fun, we're about an hour from both Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC! We strongly recommend having your own vehicle to get around.
